Hi all, welcome to OUR blog! A place where we as a group will help better our lives one blog at a time.
So about me: I’m a wife and a mother of two very active kiddos. These roles in themselves keep me on my toes, but I also run an Integrative Nutrition and Holistic Health coaching practice in Northern Virginia. I was born in Minnesota to a mother who grew up on a farm and a dad who was born and raised in Iran and I married a Texan (of Mexican decent). We like to joke and say our children are “Persicans.” Needless to say I’ve been super fortunate to grow up in a multicultural family, and I believe this has helped me to be more open minded about life…and food.
Prior to becoming a mom, I worked in the medical field. I was the one who loved the smell of hospitals, and the site of blood only sparked my curiosity. I know, weird. As time would go on, I ended that career and became a Massage Therapist and Master Esthetician. For over ten years I enjoyed this path while starting and raising my family. Being content in that career, I never expected that my young family would be riddled with chronic illness and I would once again need to change direction. It was never anything fatal, but it was surely exhausting and uncomfortable enough for everyone. Both children diagnosed with asthma in their infancy, eczema, chronic bronchitis, ear infections, post nasal drip, chronic pneumonia and ADD among other ailments, hovered over us all.
We were an active and “healthy” eating family but no matter what, illness followed. Finally listening to my “mama intuition”, I started asking questions and looking beyond the doctors office. With the information I was finding, I learned exactly what this whole “holistic” lifestyle was all about. It wasn’t the fat grams, the amount of protein and it definitely wasn’t calorie counting. It was about using Mother Nature to heal us not only physically but mentally. It was learning to not only read the labels but to know what they mean. Though it seemed impossible at the time, my children are now free of all their long lists of medications and live a much happier life because of it. And because I was so intrigued and thankful with what I was learning, I went back to school to learn more so I could become certified in Holistic Nutrition and Health Coaching. I’m also a member of the AADP (American Association of Drugless Practitioners), and finishing up my degree as a Holistic Practitioner.
For the past four years I have been working with families and individuals on helping better their health and ditching the drugs whenever possible. I also give seminars in schools and camps and even teach workshops and cooking classes. When I’m not teaching, I enjoy traveling with my family, yoga, gardening, eating and cooking (just wait for all the recipes I’m gonna share!). I hope you enjoy learning all that I have to share, and most importantly, I hope I help YOU live life pure.
